Final Stats

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Terps challenged #19 Florida State Friday night, but ultimately fell to the Seminoles 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 24-26, 25-23). Maryland (9-13, 3-7 ACC) will be back in action Sunday against #25 Miami at 2 p.m.

Sophomore Mary Cushman posted a team-high 16 kills and senior Maddi Lee added 13 kills to lead the Terps. Junior Caitlin Adams chipped in with eight kills and a five blocks, and junior Remy McBain finished one kill and one dig shy of a triple-double. McBain finished with nine kills, 39 assists and nine digs.

Florida State controlled the first set. The Seminoles scored 11 of the first 13 points and did not allow the Terps to get closer than seven to go and win 25-15.

With the Seminoles leading 6-5 in the second set, Florida State scored five points in a row to distance themselves from the Terps. Maryland cut the lead to four points three times, but were unable to close the gap any further. Florida State's Visnja Djurdjevic tallied six of her 10 kills in the second set to seal the victory 25-19.

In the third set, the Terps began to find holes in the Seminoles defense. A 5-0 run midway through the second set put Maryland ahead 16-9. Florida State rallied to tie the match at 20, and earned set point following a Maryland error at 24-22. On the ensuing point, senior Maddi Lee blocked a Seminole attack and freshman Adreene Elliott scored off an errant Florida State dig to tie the set. Following an error by the Seminoles, Lee closed out the set with a kill for the Terps.

Florida State led 7-5 early in the fourth set before the Terps scored six points in a row capped by a kill from Adams. The Seminoles responded and tied the match at 12. The two teams would combine for five ties for the rest of the set with the Terps holding onto a slight lead. Following a Florida State error, the Terps led 23-20, but the Seminoles scored five straight points to close out the match.
