
Maryland Tabbed #11 in AP Preseason Poll

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's basketball team is ranked No. 11 in the Associated Press preseason poll, released Saturday. The Terps have started the season ranked in each of the last seven years.
Maryland will play eight games against preseason Top 25 teams, including four at home. First, the Terps will play host to No. 10 Georgetown on Sunday, Nov. 13 at 2 p.m. in Comcast Center.
The Terrapins, who return four of their five starters from last year's 24-8 team, ended the 2010-11 season ranked No. 16 in the Associated Press poll and No. 18 in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
Maryland is one of five Atlantic Coast Conference teams to be ranked in the preseason top 25. Miami begins the year at No. 7, with Duke just behind the Hurricanes at No. 8. Florida State is ranked 14th and North Carolina comes in at No. 20. Georgia Tech is receiving votes.
The Terrapins were picked to finished third in the ACC this year, just behind Miami and Duke. Sophomore Alyssa Thomas and senior Lynetta Kizer were named to the Preseason All-ACC Team and the Preseason Wooden Award List.
Maryland will play host to Messiah College Tuesday at 7 p.m. for its first of two exhibitions. On Sunday, Nov. 6, the Terps will welcome Holy Family to College Park for a 7 p.m. exhibition game.
