COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland volleyball team honored its two seniors, Maddi Lee and Sharon Strizak, before the match against Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon at Comcast Pavilion, but unfortunately for the Terps, Wake Forest defeated Maryland by a 3-1 (25-20, 25-17, 22-25, 25-23) margin. The Terrapins (9-22, 3-16) close out the regular season at home against Boston College at 1 p.m. on Wednesday.

Sophomore Sarah Harper entered the match 13 digs shy of the Maryland single-season record. Harper finished with 23 digs, 15 coming in the third and fourth sets, to pass Stephanie Doiron (546, 2005). On the season, Harper has 557.

Sophomore Mary Cushman had 14 kills and 12 digs for her third straight double-double. Freshman Adreene Elliott finished with a career-high .609 hitting percentage and 15 kills.

Maryland scored five of the first seven points to open the match. The Demon Deacons fought back to tie the set on two separate occasions before taking the lead at 11-10. With Wake Forest leading 12-11, the Demon Deacons scored four consecutive points to force the Terps to call a timeout. Junior Caitlin Adams cut the Wake Forest lead to 16-12 with a kill following the timeout, but the Demon Deacons kept the momentum and answered with back-to-back kills to go on and win the first set 25-20.

Wake Forest broke an 11-11 tie with five consecutive points to gain control of the second set. The Demon Deacons stretched their lead to as much as eight points at 20-12 and eventually won the set 25-17.

The two teams traded points in the early part of the third set. With the set tied at nine, Maryland took the lead after a Wake Forest error and a kill from junior Remy McBain. The Demon Deacons answered with a kill, but McBain and Lee scored consecutively to give Maryland a 13-10 lead. Wake Forest drew even at 19 following a Maryland error. After the two teams split the next two points, Elliott tallied back-to-back kills to give Maryland a 22-20 lead. Following a Maryland error, junior Caitlin Adams added one of her 11 kills and Wake Forest committed its fifth error of the set to give the set to the Terps.

The Demon Deacons took control of the fourth set early and led 10-5. Wake Forest maintained its lead until Maryland scored three consecutive points courtesy of two Cushman kills and one from Elliott to tie the set at 23. After a Kristin Grissom kills gave the Demon Deacons set point, Carlin Salmon blocked an Elliott attack to win the set for Wake Forest.
