#16 Maryland to Play #7 Duke Thursday

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 16 Maryland women's basketball team will play host to No. 7 Duke Thursday night. The Terps and the Blue Devils will play at 7:30 p.m. in Comcast Center.

Head Coach Brenda Frese will award two lucky Maryland students with a Wii along with Wii Sports and a Samsung LCD HDTV at the game. Students will receive a raffle ticket upon entry and Coach Frese will hand the winning students their prizes at the end of the game.

Maryland (20-5, 6-4 ACC) is coming off of a 60-57 loss to Virginia Sunday. Freshman Alyssa Thomas led the Terrapins with 14 points and eight rebounds, while junior Lynetta Kizer had 15 points and 11 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the year.

Duke (23-2, 9-1 ACC) is coming off of a 66-53 win over Boston College in Durham Sunday.

The Terps-Blue Devils' previous meeting this season, Duke edged Maryland 71-64 in the final minutes for the win.

The Terps have outrebounded their opponents in 23 of 25 games this year. They lead the ACC and are No. 2 in the country in rebounding margin (+14.5).

After Thursday's game, the Terrapins will play at No. 15 Florida State Sunday afternoon at 3 p.m. Sunday's game will be broadcast on ESPN2.

Freshman Alyssa Thomas led the Terrapins with 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds. She has scored in double-figures in nine of 10 ACC games.

Junior Lynetta Kizer had 12 point and nine boards.

LAST TIME OUT...

On Sunday, the Terrapins fell to Virginia 60-57 in College Park.

Freshman Alyssa Thomas led the Terps with 14 points and eight boards. She has scored in double figures in nine of 10 ACC games.

Junior Lynetta Kizer had 12 points and nine rebounds.

The Terps held the advantage inside, outrebounding the Cavaliers 43-35. The Terps scored 32 points in the paint to Virginia's 27.

SCOUTING THE BLUE DEVILS

Duke is 23-2 overall, 9-1 in the ACC, and 10-2 on the road this season.

The Blue Devils pulled out the first meeting this year, a 71-64, hard-fought win in Durham.

Most recently, Duke beat Boston College 66-53 in Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Jasmine Thomas leads the Blue Devils with 14.3 points per game. Krystal Thomas leads on the glass with 8.3 per contest.

The all-time series is tied at 37. Maryland owns the edge in College Park, 18-12.

ABOUT THE TERPS

Maryland fields one of the youngest rosters in the nation. The Terps are one of seven teams in the country to not have any seniors.

All five members of Maryland's No. 2 recruiting class played in their state's high school championship game and three, Alicia DeVaughn, Laurin Mincy and Alyssa Thomas won their respective titles.

Sophomore Diandra Tchatchouang played in the European championships over the summer. She led France to a fourth-place finish in the tournament. She was on her way to being tournament MVP, before suffering an ankle injury.

10 of the 14 Terrapins are over 6'0 tall and eight are over 6'2, making the Terps one of the tallest teams in the country. None of the Terps' 2010-11 opponents have as many players over 6'1.

GLASS CRASHERS

The Terps lead the ACC and are No. 2 in the country in rebounding margin (+14.5).

Three Terps are in the top 20 in the ACC in rebounding. Lynetta Kizer is No. 8 (7.6) and freshman Alyssa Thomas is No. 12 (7.1). Alicia DeVaughn is No. 18 (5.9 rpg).

Thomas is No. 4 the ACC in rebounding in conference games (8.6). She and Kizer both lead in offensive rebounding (3.8) and (3.7) in league games. Thomas leads all freshmen in rebounding.

The Terrapins have won the battle on the boards in 23 of 25 games. They have grabbed 1175 rebounds to their opponent's 813.

ALL HANDS ON DECK

Nine Terrapins are averaging over 14.0 minutes per game.

The Terrapins have had six different starting lineups through 25 games this season.

Maryland's bench averages 25.4 points per game to their opponents' 18.0. The Terrapins' bench has outscored its opponents' bench in 17 of the 25 games this season.

TEAM TYLER

In September, Coach Frese's two-year old son, Tyler Thomas, was diagnosed leukemia.

To help with leukemia awareness, a group of former Maryland players from the 2006 national championship team, including Marissa Coleman, Shay Doron, Laura Harper and Kristi Toliver, are starting a foundation called Team Tyler.

Some of the Terps' opponents this year, including the coaches from Purdue, the SAC from Loyola, the coaches at UMBC and Duke, as well as Georgia Tech, have made contributions to Team Tyler.

The Terrapins will be wearing green ribbons on their warmup shirts this season in honor of leukemia awareness.

TOUGH PLACE TO PLAY

Comcast Center was recently named one of the country's top ten toughest places to play. No other ACC school made the top ten.

The Terps have won 83.00 percent of their games in Comcast Center (122-25) since it opened in 2002.

Maryland has led the ACC in attendance since 2007.
