GREENSBORO, N.C. - Freshman Alyssa Thomas of the No. 16 Maryland women's basketball team was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Rookie of the Week the league announced Monday. She earned the weekly honor for the sixth time this season - a new Maryland school record.
Thomas has scored in double figures in 11 of 12 ACC games this year. The newcomer from Harrisburg, Pa., averaged 20.5 points over the week and 8.0 rebounds. She is the No. 6 in the league in scoring (15.7 ppg) and No. 4 in rebounding (8.5 rpg) in conference games. She is also in the top ten in steals (2.0).
She leads all ACC rookies in scoring, rebounding and steals.
Against No. 7 Duke Thursday, Thomas had 15 points and 10 rebounds. She was 6-for-13 from the field and a perfect 3-for-3 from the foul line.
At No. 12 Florida State Sunday, Thomas notched a career high 26 points off 11-for-22 shooting from the field. She added six rebounds and two steals.
