GREENSBORO, N.C. - Maryland junior Lynetta Kizer was named the Atlantic Coast Conference's Player of the Week the league announced Monday. The Terrapin junior averaged 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game to help the No. 10 Terps (20-3, 6-2 ACC) to two ACC wins this week.
The weekly honor is a first for Kizer, who was twice named the ACC's Rookie of the Week in 2009, before earning the Rookie of the Year honor.
In the Terps' 56-53 win at No. 24 Georgia Tech Thursday, she not only scored 18 points and had eight rebounds, but she dished a career-high four assists and grabbed three steals.
Against NC State Sunday, Kizer notched her sixth double-double of the year with 22 points and 13 rebounds. After the Terrapins trailed 39-36 at the half, Kizer led a second-half surge to help the Terps to an 88-59 victory. She scored 18 points and pulled down nine boards in the second period alone.
She went 11-for-13 (.846) at the foul line on the week and has made 16 of her last 18 free throws.
Maryland notched its seventh consecutive 20-win season under head coach Brenda Frese Sunday. The Terrapins have now won seven straight games.
The Terrapins will hit the road this week to play at No. 18 Miami. The Terps and the Hurricanes will play Thursday at 7 p.m. in BankUnited Center in Coral Gables, Fla. The game will be shown on Canes All Access.
