DURHAM, N.C. - Maryland freshman Amina Smith tied for third in the women's high jump Saturday to earn All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors at the ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Duke.
Smith cleared 5 feet, 6 inches in the rain-delayed event. She was one of five competitors over the bar at 5-6, but only two others had clearances at 5-8 to move on in the competition. Smith tied for third by virtue of fewer misses than others in the field.
Her five team points on Saturday helped the Terrapins finish with 34 for the meet, earning ninth place. Clemson won the women's competition with 202 points, with Florida State in second at 132.5 and North Carolina in third with 117.5.
Also for Maryland on Saturday, ACC discus champion Kristen Batts placed fourth in the women's hammer in a career-best 181-1 to move into third all-time at Maryland in that event.
