COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Sophomore Patrick Mullins scored two goals to lead No. 4 Maryland past Towson, 4-3, in exhibition action Tuesday.
Mullins, the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman of the Year, tallied the second and third goals of the match to lead the Terps to their first win in 2011.
Junior Kaoru Forbess lofted a beautiful cross from the far sideline to a leaping Sunny Jane for the Terps' first score a mere four minutes into the match. Following a Towson score, Mullins put Maryland on top 3-1 with a pair of goals. After Towson knotted the match at 3-3, a pressing Terrapin offense ultimately resulted in an own goal with four minutes left in the contest.
The Terps return to action Saturday with their final exhibition against Georgetown at 7 p.m. at Ludwig Field. The season opener is Friday, Aug. 26 against St. John's in the ACC/BIG EAST Challenge.
