COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Fourth year assistant coach Tina Langley was promoted to associate head coach of the Maryland women's basketball team head coach Brenda Frese announced Friday. Langley serves as the program's recruiting coordinator and has helped bring in some of Frese's top recruiting classes.

"Tina Langley is one of the greatest hires I ever made. Her work ethic is second to none. I'm honored to call her my co-worker and she's truly earned the title associate head coach,'" Frese said. "From the day she started here, Tina took ownership in Maryland women's basketball. She deserves a lot of credit for all that we've accomplished and is a vital cog in our program."

"More than that, she's a good person and personifies the values I want around the players in our program. As a coach, she has the immensely important trait of always wanting to get better in every category. She really never rests, which is probably why she and I get along so well."

Langley was hired by Frese in the spring of 2008. In her first year with the Terrapins, she helped lead them to the 2009 ACC title and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. In the fall of 2009, the Terrapins signed the nation's No. 2 recruiting class, due in large part to Langley's success on the recruiting trail. Since she came on board, two Terrapins have won ACC Rookie of the Year awards.

"I just want to thank Coach Frese for this opportunity," Langley said. "I am so incredibly blessed to work for her. She epitomizes all that should be in women's athletics. Not only is she one of the best coaches in the country, she is a mentor and mother figure to all the young women with which she works."

"One of the characteristics that make Coach Frese so special is that she always allows everyone to have a part in what we do. It makes us that much stronger as a team. For Coach Frese to give me this opportunity is humbling. I truly believe there is no better place for a young woman to play college basketball than Maryland. We have been fortunate to work with some of the world's most talented student-athletes, and we will continue to recruit the type of people/players that have made this place so special. I am so honored and excited to keep moving forward toward our ultimate goals at Maryland."

Since Langley came on board before the start of the 2008-09 season, the Terps have compiled a record of 76-26 (.745) and have finished in the top third of the ACC in two out of those three seasons.

Known for her determination and work ethic, Langley had coaching stints at Toledo, Clemson and Georgia, prior to arriving in College Park, and has been instrumental in recruiting, game preparation and floor management in each of her stops.
