COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The fifth season of Terrapins Rising, a first-of-its-kind four-part reality series about the Maryland football program, debuts on Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic at 9 p.m. Tuesday.
Comcast SportsNet will air this year's four-part `Terrapins Rising' series weekly throughout August, with debuts each Tuesday at 9 p.m.
Encores will air on Thursdays at 4:30 p.m. and Saturdays at 11:30 a.m., as well as other times each week. The show will also be available to most cable subscribers on video on demand and on Terps TV the day after the initial telecast.
The 30-minute show gives a behind-the-scenes look at the inner workings of a major college football program. This season's series will follow first-year head coach Randy Edsall and his staff as they prepare the team for 2011.
Each episode of the series, a partnership between Maryland Athletics, Comcast SportsNet and Atkinson & Co., features in-depth player and coach profiles, as well as footage of spring practice, off-season workouts and preseason practice.
A production crew, led by former University of Maryland and Washington Redskins place-kicker Jess Atkinson, has been following the team both on and off the field.
Edsall and his staff will look for 41 letterwinners, including 12 returning offensive and defensive starters, to carry them through the season.
Danny O'Brien, the 2010 Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year, headlines five starters back on offense. The sophomore, who threw for 2,438 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2010, is on the preseason watch list for the Davey O'Brien Award which honors the top quarterback in the nation.
Kenny Tate, Joe Vellano and Demetrius Hartsfield highlight the seven starters back on defense. Tate (100), a 2010 first team All-ACC pick, and Hartsfield (88) are the top two tacklers back for the Terrapins. Vellano was also an all-league pick a year ago, earning second-team honors after posting a team-best 5.0 sacks.
`Terrapins Rising' will also air nationally on FOX Sports Atlantic. A complete list of air times can be found below.
