
Maryland Hosts UVa and Virginia Tech in Weekend Series

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland volleyball team will complete a four-game homestand this weekend as the Terps welcome Virginia and Virginia Tech to Comcast Pavilion. The Terrapins (8-7, 2-1) and Cavaliers will meet Friday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. The Terps will face the Hokies Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. Maryland is looking to improve to 4-1 in ACC play which would be its best start since 2005 when the Terps started 5-0.
The Terps are coming off a straight-set victory over NC State in which Maryland snapped the Wolfpack's school record 13-game winning streak led by sophomore Mary Cushman's 12 kills. Cushman leads the Terrapins in kills (165) and is ninth in conference play with 3.44 per set. The Rochester native has registered double-digit kills in eight of the last 10 matches.
ACC Freshman of the Week Adreene Elliott has tallied eight kills in four straight matches, and her .435 hitting percentage in ACC play is tied for second in the conference. Elliott's 24 kills in the last three matches is second best on the team.
With a total of 54 assists against North Carolina and NC State last weekend, junior Remy McBain has 1,984 for her career and stands 111 assists shy of passing Libby Alberts for fifth all-time at Maryland. McBain's 542 assists this season is tops in the ACC and her per set average (9.68) ranks sixth.
The Terps are 33-20 against Virginia all-time and split the two meetings in 2010. Against Virginia Tech all-time, Maryland is 10-6 with each team winning on its home court last season.

Virginia arrives in College Park after two straight-set losses to Florida State and Miami last weekend. The Cavaliers, coached by Lee Maes, are second in the ACC in digs (731), and fifth in kills (13.95) and assists (12.93) per set.
The Cavaliers are led offensively by senior Simone Asque and junior Jessica O'Shoney. Asque is third in the conference in kills (164) and is averaging 3.73 per set. O'Shoney has tallied 122 kills and ranks fifth in the ACC in hitting percentage (.373).
Junior Beth Wildermuth is the primary setter for the Cavs. Wildermuth is averaging 10.32 per set which is fifth best in the ACC. On the season, Wildermuth has tallied 454 assists.
Sophomore Emily Rottman's 195 digs is tied for fourth in the conference. In ACC play, Rothman is averaging 4.20 per set good for eighth best.
In its three conference matches, Virginia is hitting .210 while allowing its opponents to hit .299.

Head coach Chris Riley's squad enters Sunday's match after falling to Miami and Florida State last weekend. The Hokies are second in the ACC in defense holding opponents to a .165 hitting percentage and rank second in blocks with 2.66 per set.
Junior Cara Baarendse and senior Justine Record are the two primary attack options for the Hokies. Barrendse leads the team with 128 kills while Record has tallied 123.
Sophomore Victoria Hamsher provides a strong defensive presence around the net. Hamsher has recorded 68 blocks which is tops in the ACC and is averaging 1.36 per set.
The Hokies are averaging 1.10 services aces per set and have two of the top servers in the conference in freshman Jordan Fish and senior Erin Lester. The duo rank four and five, respectively, and have combined for 17 service aces in three ACC matches.
