"Maryland's Townsend Thinks He Made Right Choice Staying in College" - Washington Post - 10/6/11"
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Following a stellar showing at the adidas MLS Player Combine earlier this week, senior Casey Townsend is poised to learn his fate as the 2012 MLS SuperDraft begins Thursday.
Townsend, an NSCAA Second Team All-American and MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist in 2011, scored a pair of goals to lead team adiPower to a 3-0 record at the combine. A native of Traverse City, Mich., the senior forward notched goals in wins against Prime and adiZero (watch video highlights below). Team adiPower was coached by Maryland head coach Sasho Cirovski.
Senior Alex Lee could also hear his name called Thursday. A three-year starter in Maryland's premier backline, the center back from Rockville, Md., helped guide the Terps to 23 shutouts his final two seasons in College Park.
Fans can watch the draft live on ESPN2 and ESPN3 or follow the draft tracker at MLSSoccer.com. Draft coverage begins at noon.
Maryland had three players selected in the 2011 draft, led by Zac MacMath, who was chosen by the Philadelphia Union with the fifth overall pick. The Terps also lost underclassmen Matt Kassel (NYRB) and Ethan White (D.C. United) to homegrown contracts.
