COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
Maryland women's soccer All-American Jasmyne Spencer was chosen in Friday's Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) Draft.
Spencer, a three time All-Atlantic Coast Conference choice, was selected with the third pick of the fourth round (21st overall) by the Philadelphia Independence.
"I'm just so happy for Jasmyne," Maryland head soccer coach Brian Pensky said. "She loves the game and it means the world to her. There's no question she's going to make the most of this opportunity."
Spencer finished her career this past fall as one of the most decorated players in school history. The native of Bay Shore, N.Y., is one of just five players in Maryland history to be named to the All-ACC team three times. She ranks among the top 10 in career goals, points, game-winning goals and shots as a Terrapin.
Overall there were five ACC players taken in the 2012 WPS Draft.
