COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's basketball team held its first practice of the year last Friday afternoon. Due to a new NCAA rule, teams can practice based off of their first game date.
Fans can come see this year's Terps for the first time Friday, Oct. 12, at the Maryland Madness event. Doors open at 6 p.m. and admission is free. See both the men's and women's basketball teams introduced and each scrimmage.
The Terrapins are picked No. 4 in Lindy's preseason poll. They are coming off of the program's 10th ACC title, a 31-5 record, and an NCAA Elite Eight finish.
They return four of five starters in Alicia DeVaughn, Tianna Hawkins, Laurin Mincy and Alyssa Thomas. They will welcome the nation's ninth-ranked freshman class of Malina Howard, Chloe Pavlech and Tierney Pfirman to the floor. Also joining is redshirt transfer Katie Rutan, who played her freshman and sophomore seasons at the then-top 10 program Xavier.
The Terrapins will open the 2012-13 season on Friday, Nov. 9 at home vs. Mount St. Mary's. For tickets, log on to umterps.com.
