Head Coach Brenda Frese
Opening Statement:
"I thought that some parts looked really good tonight, especially in the second half when we were able to get into a flow and get comfortable. I thought the first half looked like an exhibition game. I was encouraged. We were able to play a lot of players a lot of minutes and in different combinations and that will definitely get us prepared for our game on Friday."
On the point guard play:
"I thought it was solid. Obviously it's something we have to work through and get comfortable with, but I thought Laurin [Mincy] was able to get in a groove and run out team and get shots. Chloe did a really nice job for her freshman debut. We have so many scorers, that if our point guards don't try to overdo it, we should be pretty good with the amount of options we have surrounding them."
On the interior play:
"I thought they were sensational. Tianna [Hawkins] set the tone early for us in the first half and we were able to collectively be active in the second half. We need that from Tianna, Alicia [DeVaughn], Tierney [Pfirman] and Alyssa [Thomas]. We need to establish that dominance on the glass. It's something we want to continue this season."
On the freshmen:
"The biggest compliment was they didn't look like freshman. I thought they looked confident and comfortable. I thought their teammates gave them a lot of easy ways for them to score. We've got to be able to have them play at that level to have really quality depth. We know the level they can play at."
On the preseason top-five ranking:
"It's just a ranking. It doesn't mean anything going into this season. I think the biggest thing for us is always to get better. There are a lot of areas for us to continue to improve, and that's what we're focused on."
Freshman Forward Tierney Pfirman
On playing her first collegiate game:
"It was a grand time. I mean the scrimmages against the practice players got my nerves out so going into today I had a different mindset to just push through and just play."
Junior Center Alicia DeVaughn
On playing aggressively tonight:
"I was just starting to come with the flow of the game. I wanted to be more aggressive, offensive-minded, and attack more."
