
Terps Set to Open ACC Play

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland women's tennis team returns home to face ACC-foe Boston College, ranked 52nd, Friday at 1 p.m. and 63rd-ranked Harvard Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Both matches will be played at the Tennis Center at College Park.
The Terps (1-2), ranked 40th, lost to No. 10 Michigan and No. 21 Notre Dame last weekend at the ITA Kick-Off Weekend in Ann Arbor.
Junior Ana Belzunce enjoyed a solid weekend in singles and doubles. At No. 2 singles, Belzunce knocked off 46th-ranked Brooke Bolender of Michigan and paired with sophomore Welma Luus to defeat the Irish's fifth-ranked duo of Kristy Frilling and Shannon Mathews at No. 1 doubles.
Belzunce and Luus are 2-1 in the spring playing at No. 1 doubles. Including the fall, they are 3-1 against ranked opponents.
Last season, the Terps lost to Boston College, 4-3, but defeated Harvard, 6-1.

The Eagles knocked off in-state rival Massachusetts on Sunday for their second win of the season. After opening the spring campaign with a victory over 57th-ranked Dartmouth, Boston College lost to 51st-ranked Brown.
Jessica Wacnik is the Eagles top-ranked player. The freshman is ranked 108th and is 3-0 in duals playing primarily at No. 1 and No. 2 singles.
Boston College features two ranked doubles teams led by Alex Kelleher and Olga Khmylev. Kelleher and Khmylev are ranked 11th and 2-0 playing at No. 1 doubles. At No. 2 doubles, 32nd-ranked Wacnik and Erina Kikuchi are 2-1 this spring.

The Crimson opened the season Sunday with a victory over Massachusetts and feature the25th-ranked doubles team in the country in Hideko Tachibana and Kristin Norton.
Tachibana and Norton won their opening match over Yuliana Motyl and Chantal Swiszcz, 8-2.
