COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Head football coach Randy Edsall announced Thursday two adjustments with staff assignments.

With the change to a 3-4 defense, Lyndon Johnson will now oversee both outside linebacker positions (Sam and Will), while Andre Powell will take over as special-teams coordinator, in addition to his running back chores.

"With our scheme changes defensively, the Sam and Will are two of the most critical components of the scheme and I wanted Lyndon devoting his full attention to these positions," Edsall said.

Last season, Johnson was responsible for the Star position on the defensive side of the ball.

Powell was a special-teams coordinator during each of his last two stops - Clemson (2007-10) and North Carolina (2001-06). He handled both running backs and special-teams duties the final three seasons at each job.

"Andre now overseeing special teams will have us utilizing the staff's time in the most efficient manner," Edsall said.

The Terps begin spring practice on Saturday, March 10. The team will practice 15 times during the spring campaign which culminates with the annual Red-White game on Saturday, April 21 (1 p.m.).
