GREENSBORO, N.C. -
Maryland women's basketball freshman Brene Moseley and senior Kim Rodgers were both named to the Atlantic Coast Conference's All-Academic Team, released Thursday.
Rodgers, who earned her degree in communication in 2010, is currently working on a degree in psychology. She was also named to the All-Academic Team in 2011. Moseley is a freshman letters and sciences major. Head coach Brenda Frese's Terrapins have been honored 12 times in her tenure at Maryland.
To be eligible for consideration for the academic squad, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.0 cumulative average during her academic career.
A total of 15 student-athletes from seven of the league's 12 schools were named to the All-ACC Women's Basketball Academic Team. Duke led for the fourth consecutive year with six selections, followed by Clemson, Maryland and NC State with two apiece. Miami, North Carolina and Virginia each had one representative on the team.
Sophomore Alyssa Thomas was named ACC Player of the Year Thursday and is the second sophomore ever to win, after Duke's Alana Beard in 2002. Four members of the fifth-ranked Terrapins squad were named to the All-ACC Teams announced Monday. Thomas earned First Team honors, while Tianna Hawkins made the Second Team. Lynetta Kizer and Laurin Mincy each earned Honorable Mention honors and Kizer was named the ACC's Sixth Player of the Year. Moseley was named to the ACC All-Freshman Team Tuesday and Alicia DeVaughn was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team Wednesday.
The Terrapins (25-4, 11-4 ACC) will open play in the 35th Annual ACC Women's Basketball Tournament Friday evening at approximately 8 p.m. as the No. 3 seed. They will play either sixth-seeded Virginia or 11th-seeded Boston College, depending on Thursday's result.
