COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After three months of training following the 2011 season, 11 former Maryland Terrapins were finally able to see the fruits of their labor.

Maryland held its Pro Football Timing Day Wednesday afternoon at the Gossett Team House and practice facility.

Davin Meggett, who ranks seventh on the Maryland career rushing list, and Cameron Chism, who started 32 games at cornerback, already had opportunities to display their athletic ability in-person for scouts, but for nine other former teammates this session in front of representatives from 11 teams might be their final chance to make an additional impression.

Trenton Hughes, who started 16 games at cornerback the last two seasons, was one of six defensive players who worked out, joining Chism, Anthony Green, Maurice Hampton, Desmond Haynes and Shaquan Virgil.

"I gave it all I had," said Hughes who trained with Hampton in Virginia Beach. "I feel like my strength and speed have improved. I think I did well on my position drills. I just dropped one ball."

Meggett registered solid numbers at February's NFL Combine. He was third in the 60-yard shuttle (11.53) among running backs, tied for fifth with 23 reps on the bench press and his 40 time of 4.53 was tied for 10th.

"The combine was a great experience," Meggett said. "It was a once in a lifetime opportunity."

Meggett, who also played in the 2012 East-West Shine game in St. Petersburg, Fla., took part in the individual drill session with the scouts Wednesday, but was able to share his prior experiences with his former teammates.

"Take it as a blessing and an opportunity to show a positive attitude," Meggett said. "That's what's going to carry you."

Chism attended the AstroTurf NFLPA Collegiate Bowl in Carson, Calif., but did not play due to an injury.

"I felt good out there," Chism said. "My main focus was the 40 in training, but I think I did well on the shuttles."

Tim Downs, Tony Logan, Quintin McCree and Ronnie Tyler also worked out for the scouts during the three-hour session.

Andrew Gonnella is still recovering from offseason knee surgery and was only able to participate in the measurement portion of the event.
