The Maryland softball team pulled out a 4-3 win at NC State Sunday afternoon to clinch its second straight Atlantic Coast Conference series win.
The Terps (27-18, 5-7 ACC) used a three-run top of the fifth to take the lead and a sacrifice fly by Sara Acosta in the top of the seventh to claim their seventh win in their last eight games.
The Wolfpack (22-28, 4-13) scored two runs in the bottom of the second off of a two-run homer by Landon Warren to left center field.
Maryland took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth off of three hits and a Wolfpack error. Freshman Shannon Bustillos and sophomore Candice Beards used back-to-back doubles down the left field line to tie the game at 2-2. Pinch runner Bridget Hawvermale scored on the NC State throwing error.
The Wolfpack tied it up in the bottom of the sixth when Sara Lippard drew a walk with the bases loaded.
In the top of the seventh, Beards drew a walk to begin the inning, then Nikki Maier doubled to send her to third with no outs. Acosta sent a fly ball to left to score Beards for the winning run.
Senior Kendra Knight pitched her 21st complete game of the season and allowed just three hits, three earned runs, three walks and notched seven strikeouts.
