Terps Place Fifth at Fayetteville Regional

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The sixth-seeded Maryland gymnastics team placed fifth Saturday night at the NCAA Regional Championships at the University of Arkansas after posting a 194.400, which is its third highest postseason score all-time. The Terps placed fourth on bars and tied for fourth on vault.
In her final collegiate meet, senior Kyra Phillips posted a 9.85 on vault to tie for seventh and sophomore Katy Dodds tied for 11th with a 9.850 on floor.
"I'm so proud of this team and how they fought today," said head coach Brett Nelligan. "It's really been a great season. To see such a young team grow and mature into great competitors throughout the season, it has been really rewarding. I'm really happy for our seniors, Becca [Pang] and Kyra [Phillips], they've had great careers and both were instrumental in our success over the past four years."
The Terps opened the competition on floor. Led by Dodds, Maryland posted a 48.850 to place sixth. Junior Ally Krikorian tied for 21st with a 9.800, while junior Kesley Cofsky and freshman Ebony Walters both had a 9.750 to tie for 32nd.
In the second rotation, Maryland competed on vault. With a score of 48.875, the Terps tied for fourth with New Hampshire. After scoring a career-high 9.900 at the EAGL Championships, Phillips tallied a 9.850 to tie for seventh. Cofsky and Dodds finished right behind Phillips with a 9.800, which tied them for 17th.
On bars for the third rotation, four Terps scored a 9.725 or higher. Sophomore Elizabethe Manzi missed her career high by 0.025 and recorded a 9.775 to finish in a tie for 13th. Sophomore Jessie Black and Dodds tied for 17th with a 9.750, while sophomore Karen Tang tied for 21st with a 9.725.
Maryland closed the meet on beam and posted a total of 48.025 to finish fifth. Freshman Stephanie Giameo tied for 13th with a 9.775.
