First Round Results | Second Round Tee Times

Freshman Juliet Vongphoumy carded a 4-under 68 to tie a career low Thursday afternoon in the opening round of the NCAA East Regional at the par-72, 6,253-yard Blue Course at Penn State Golf Courses. Vongphoumy's 68 is the lowest 18-hole round in NCAA competition all-time for a Terrapin women's golfer.
After the first round, the Terps are tied for 13th with a 303 and are four strokes outside of the top 8. Vongphoumy is one stroke behind the leader, Texas A&M's Katerina Ruzickova, headed into second round action on Friday. The Providence, R.I., native closed the front nine with four consecutive birdies.
In her fourth-career appearance at the regionals, senior Jessica Hollandsworth fired a 5-over 77and is tied for 59th, while sophomore Emily Gimpel is tied for 72nd after finishing with a 6-over 78.
Junior Christine Shimel completed the first round with an 8-over 80.
South Carolina leads the field after firing an even-par 288. Oklahoma State is in eighth place with a 299. The top 8 teams advance to the NCAA Championships.
The Terps tee off Friday at 7:30 a.m., along with San Diego State and Kent State. Live scoring is available through Golfstat.
