COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The ACC champion Maryland women's basketball team will take on 2012 NCAA Tournament team Nebraska Nov. 28 in the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
The Terrapins will travel to Lincoln, Neb. to take on the Cornhuskers. Nebraska went 24-9 on the season last year, finished ranked No. 17 in the Associated Press poll and fell to Kansas in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Maryland won the only meeting between the two schools 76-64 in the second round of the 2008 NCAA Tournament. In last season's Challenge, the Terps beat Michigan 74-65 on Nov. 30 in College Park.
The ACC has won four of five Challenges, with the two conferences each winning six games in 2011. The inaugural Challenge in 2007 saw the ACC collect its all-time high of eight victories. Through five Challenges, Georgia Tech and Maryland remain the only undefeated teams for either conference.
The ACC and Big Ten conference offices determine the schedule each season, and matchups may repeat from year-to-year in efforts to coordinate similar opponents and reach competitive equity. In addition, the official title of the Challenge will rotate each year. The 2012 event will be referred to as the ACC/Big Ten Women's Basketball Challenge and will continue to mirror the official title of the two conferences' Challenge agreement for men's basketball.
Game times and television information will be announced at a later date.
