
John Named to NWCA All-Academic Team

MANHEIM, Pa. - Senior Kyle John has been named to the 2011-12 National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Division I Individual All-Academic team, the NWCA announced Tuesday.
John is a two-time member of the All-Academic team after earning the honor in 2011. The native of Coopersburg, Pa., is currently pursuing a master's degree in engineering project management after earning a bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
On the mat, John picked up All-ACC honors after winning the Atlantic Coast Conference championship at 157 pounds and finished the season with a 23-11 record.
There are 87 student-athletes on this year's NWCA Division I Individual All-Academic team including five NCAA champions, three NCAA runner-ups, 23 All-Americans and 77 NCAA qualifiers.
To qualify for the All-Academic team, a wrestler must have at least a 3.2 cumulative GPA, and either been an NCAA qualifier or won 60 percent of his matches. In addition, the wrestler must have competed in at least 60 percent of a team's scheduled matches. Those wrestlers who have at least a 3.0 GPA and were an NCAA All-American also qualify for the All-Academic team.
