Maryland 2012 Men's Soccer Schedule
COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland men's soccer team announced its 2012 fall schedule Thursday. The Terps begin the season with matches against fellow NCAA perennial powers Louisville, UCLA and California at Ludwig Field.
Maryland will look to measure itself early when it faces Louisville in the season opener Aug. 26. The Cardinals topped the Terps in the round-of-16 in 2011. Maryland then welcomes West Coast-foes UCLA (Aug. 31) and California (Sept. 2) before embarking on their first road trip of the year at Boston College Sept. 7.
The Terps, who made their 10th consecutive appearance in the Sweet 16 last season, return home Sept. 11 for a match against intrastate rival UMBC at Ludwig. After a two-game road swing at NC State (Sept. 14) and Old Dominion (Sept. 18), Maryland plays host to Virginia Tech Sept. 21 and Georgia State Sept. 24.
The Terps will spend nearly the entire month of October in College Park with home matches against Virginia (Oct. 5), Rutgers (Oct. 9), Colgate (Oct. 16), North Carolina (Oct. 19), Lehigh (Oct. 23), and Clemson (Oct. 29). Maryland will also travel to key conference tests at Duke Oct. 12 and Wake Forest Nov. 1 to cap the regular season.
The 2012 ACC Men's Soccer Championship runs from Nov. 5 - 11. The first round will be held at the site of the No. 1 seed with quarterfinal action taking place at the site of the higher seed. The Maryland SoccerPlex in Germantown will play host to the semifinals and title game.
"Once again, I am pleased to announce a great schedule for our fans to enjoy," head coach Sasho Cirovski, who is entering his 20th season at Maryland, said. "I am excited to challenge our players early and often as we embark on our 2012 journey. In addition to the great challenge we always have in the ACC, we are eager to play top teams from eight other conferences. I can't wait to get going."
The Terps will return eight starters from last year's unit which boasted a 14-4-3 record.
