Terps in the NFL - August 14th

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland had a number of former players in action during the first week of NFL preseason games, with several making significant contributions. The Terps now have 33 alumni on NFL rosters.

Below are short summaries for those that saw action in week one, followed by a complete list of current Terps in the NFL.

Lance Ball - RB - Denver Broncos
Fifth-year running back Lance Ball totaled seven carries for 16 yards and a touchdown in the Broncos' preseason opener against the Chicago Bears. Ball also caught one pass for three yards in the 31-3 win over the Bears.

Travis Baltz - P - New York Jets
Second-year punter Travis Baltz was on the field twice last week for the New York Jets, totaling two punts for 69 yards in a 17-6 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Baltz had a long punt of 49 yards and downed one punt inside the 20-yard line in the season opener.

Kevin Barnes - DB - Washington Redskins
Fifth-year cornerback Kevin Barnes is hoping to continue his strong play from last season, when he had 26 tackles and two interceptions. In the Redskins' preseason opener, a 7-6 victory over the Buffalo Bills, Barnes had one pass deflection.

Nolan Carroll - DB - Miami Dolphins
Third-year player Nolan Carroll had two solo tackles in his 2012 preseason debut for the Miami Dolphins. The Dolphins, however, lost 20-7 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Cameron Chism - DB - Indianapolis Colts
Rookie cornerback Cameron Chism made his NFL debut on Sunday for the Indianapolis Colts. Chism recorded two total tackles in the Colts' 38-3 victory over the St. Louis Rams. Chism had one solo and one assisted tackle in the game.

Moise Fokou - LB - Indianapolis Colts
Moise Fokou had a strong start to the 2012 preseason for the Indianapolis Colts. Fokou recorded three solo tackles, including one tackle for loss, in the Colts' 38-3 opening win against the St. Louis Rams.

Dan Gronkowski - TE - Cleveland Browns
Dan Gronkowski opened the 2012 season for the Cleveland Browns with two catches for 27 yards, with a long of 19 yards. The Browns defeated the Detroit Lions 19-17 in their first preseason game.

Erin Henderson - LB - Minnesota Vikings
Erin Henderson recorded three solo tackles as the Vikings fell to the San Francisco 49ers, 17-6.

Darrius Heyward-Bey - WR - Oakland Raiders
Darrius Heyward-Bey had one reception for seven yards as the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Raiders, 3-0.

Shaun Hill - QB - Detroit Lions
Shaun Hill had a solid start to the 2012 season, as he went 8-of-12 for 83 yards through the air and threw one touchdown pass. However, the Lions fell to the Cleveland Browns 19-17.

Davin Meggett - RB - Houston Texans
Davin Meggett made his NFL debut Saturday for the Houston Texans. Meggett had six rushes for 29 yards, including a long run of 15 yards. The Texans defeated the Carolina Panthers 26-13.

Shawne Merriman - LB - Buffalo Bills
Shawne Merriman recorded two tackles and had one quarterback hit in a 7-6 loss to the Washington Redskins.

Adrian Moten - LB - Philadelphia Eagles
Adrian Moten recorded one tackle in the Eagles' 24-23 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Adam Podlesh - P - Chicago Bears
Adam Podlesh had four punts for a total of 190 yards for the Bears in their preseason opener. Podlesh had a long punt of 51 yards, but the Bears fell to the Denver Broncos 31-3.

Torrey Smith - WR - Baltimore Ravens
Torrey Smith started off his second year with the Ravens well, with three catches for 43 yards. The Ravens defeated the Atlanta Falcons 31-17.

Isaiah Williams - WR - Arizona Cardinals
Isaiah Williams had one catch for 21 yards as the Cardinals fell to the Kansas City Chiefs, 27-17.

LaQuan Williams - WR - Baltimore Ravens
LaQuan Williams had one reception for six yards in the Ravens' opening 31-17 victory over the Falcons.

Josh Wilson - DB - Washington Redskins
Josh Wilson recorded one solo tackle and had two pass deflections in the Redskins' 7-6 win over the Buffalo Bills.
