Scouting The Terps
• Maryland opens its 2012 season ranked No. 13 in the preseason NSCAA poll and No. 19 in the preseason poll by Soccer America. The Terrapins are coming off of another tremendous season that saw them compile a 12-6-4 overall record and advance to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the second time in the past three seasons.

Roster Schedule 2011 Statistics Digital Media Guide

• The Terps return four of their top five goal-scorers from last season, as well as four of their top six assist leaders. Leading the way up top will be forwards Hayley Brock, who combined to score 12 goals and add eight assists in 2011. Freshman Gabby Galanti has been impressive throughout the preseason and veterans Alex Reed and Marisa Kresge will also compete for playing time.

• The midfield is the strength of the Terrapin team with seniors Domenica Hodak, Becky Kaplan and Olivia Wagner anchoring the unit. Those three will be joined by sophomore Cory Ryan and junior Kristen Schmidbauer, as well as talented freshmen Ashley Spivey, Riley Barger, Aubrey Baker, Maise McCune and Erika Joab.

• Only senior Megan Gibbons returns on the back line for the Terps, but senior Bailey Bodell is poised to help provide veteran leadership to the unit, which figures to have freshmen Sarah Molina and Shannon Collins in the starting line up. Sophomore Shade Pratt has also been impressive during training and her speed could be a factor. Junior Kayla Clarke is healthy and provides depth at center back. Redshirt freshman Amanda Gerlitz and freshman Erika Nelson are also possibilities.

• Redshirt freshman Rachelle Beanlands won the starting goalkeeper job in the spring and appears to have held on duing fall training. Junior Shannon Zickler is set to backup Beanlands and could compete for playing time. Sophomore transfer Kristene Mumby provides depth.
