COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The No. 9 Maryland men's soccer team kicks off its exhibition slate with a match at No. 3 Creighton at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Morrison Stadium.
The Terps return eight starters from last season when the team made its nation-best 10th straight Sweet Sixteen appearance. Maryland will also rely on a highly-touted recruiting class which includes six players in the College Soccer News' Top 150 Recruits.
Maryland recently had two players tabbed to the 2012 MAC Hermann Trophy List. Defender Taylor Kemp and midfielder John Stertzer were named nominees for the prestigious award, recognized as the highest individual honor in intercollegiate soccer.
Creighton is in its second year under the tutelage of long-time North Carolina head coach Elmar Bolowich. The Jays were a stellar 21-2-1 last season including a loss to Maryland on Sept. 30 in College Park.
Following Friday's contest, Maryland returns home to cap the preseason with a match against Penn State on Monday. The game is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. and fans can listen live at www.wmucsports.com.
Head coach Sasho Cirovski's 20th season at the helm of the Maryland program officially begins Sunday, Aug. 26 with a highly-anticipated rematch with No. 7 Louisville at Ludwig Field.
