WATCH LIVE: Johnny Holliday's one-on-one interviews (12:15 p.m.)
COLLEGE PARK, Md. -
The University of Maryland football team is set to open preseason training camp Monday evening, and the team will hold its annual media day that morning.
The Terrapins, which return 41 letterwinners including 15 offensive and defensive starters from last season, are set to report to campus on Sunday to move into the dorms. The team will go through the traditional acclimation period Sunday which includes a physical and a team meeting in the evening.
Media day gets underway Monday at 11 a.m. with head coach Randy Edsall's press conference, which will be streamed live on umterps.com. Following Edsall, team captains C.J. Brown, Demetrius Hartsfield, Kevin Dorsey and Joe Vellano will address the media from 11:30-11:45.
Although media day isn't open to the public, fans have several opportunities to catch the action. In addition to Edsall and the captain's press conferences, interview sessions with "Voice of the Terrapins" Johnny Holliday will be streamed live for free on umterps.com starting at 12:15 p.m.
Holliday will conduct interviews with Edsall at 12:15; offensive captains Brown and Dorsey at 12:25; defensive captains Hartsfield and Vellano at 12:35; and incoming freshman wide receiver Stefon Diggs at 12:45. Those interviews will also be available for replay later in the day for fans with subscriptions to TerpsTV.
Following media day, the team will hold its first individual unit meetings before hitting the practice field that evening to continue preparations for the season opener against William & Mary at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 1, at Capital One Field at Byrd Stadium.
Among 10 starters back on the Terrapin defense are Vellano, a 2011 second team All-American who led all Football Bowl Subdivision linemen with 7.8 tackles per game; and Hartsfield, the ACC's active career leader in tackles with 260. Additionally, fifth-year senior Kenny Tate will look to return to his 2010 All-ACC form after an injury-shortened 2011 campaign.
Offensively, five starters return including three of the top four receivers from a year ago. Dorsey, fellow wide receiver Kerry Boykins and preseason All-ACC tight end Matt Furstenburg combined for 113 receptions last season.
Brown, meanwhile, will take over No. 1 quarterback duties after starting five games in 2011 and setting a Maryland single-season rushing yards record for a quarterback.
