Final Stats

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The fourth-ranked Maryland field hockey team cruised to a 4-2 victory over No. 14 Wake Forest Saturday in Winston-Salem, N.C., behind an efficient offensive performance.

Coming off of a hat trick last Friday, freshman Alyssa Parker scored twice within a minute to break open a two-goal Maryland lead. In the 27th minute, junior Jill Witmer passed it to her on the left side for the first score. At 27:30, just 52 seconds later, Witmer found Parker again on the left side of the cage for a second score.

Maryland (7-1, 2-0 ACC) led 2-0 at halftime, then in the first few minutes of the second stanza, the Terps expanded their lead. In the 42nd minute, sophomore Steffi Schneid punched one in from senior Megan Frazer off a penalty corner. The goal was Schneid's first of the season.

Just a few minutes later, Jess McFadyen of Wake Forest (3-5, 0-2) put the Demon Deacons on the board off a penalty corner in the 47th minute.

Witmer scored in the 57th minute for a 4-1 Terps lead, when she deflected one in off Wake's goalie from the right side.

Wake's Taylor Rhea deflected in a shot from McFadyen to give the Demon Deacons their second goal in the 61st minute.

Maryland outshot Wake, 16-9, and each team had six penalty corners. Junior goalkeeper Natalie Hunter had four saves, as did Wake Forest's Kaitlyn Ruhf.

The Terrapins own the all-time series 28-11 and have won the last eight straight meetings dating back to 2007. Maryland beat Wake Forest for the 2008 and 2006 NCAA titles.

Maryland was without starters Maxine Fluharty, Katie Gerzabek and Ali McEvoy in Saturday's game. The trio is in Guadalajara, Mexico with the U.S. Under-21 Team, competing in the Junior Pan American Games. They will return to the Terrapins this week.

Next, the Terps will take on No. 7 Virginia (8-2, 1-0) Friday at 6 p.m. in Charlottesville, Va. GameTracker live stats will be available.
