
Terps Jump to #17 in GymInfo Poll

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - After setting a program-high season-opening total in Raleigh, the Maryland gymnastics team continued its strong start to the 2013 season Monday as the squad debuted in the GymInfo Top 25 at No. 17.
After totaling a 195.000 against 19th-ranked NC State on Saturday, Maryland now occupies the top spot in the EAGL after being picked second in the preseason coaches poll. The Terps also rank first on vault and balance beam in the conference.
As a team, the Terps rank eighth nationally on vault, 15th on beam and 22nd on floor.
In addition to the team accolades, several gymnasts rank among the nation's elite. Junior Katy Dodds ranks as the nation's top performer on vault after scoring a program-record 9.975 in Raleigh.
Senior Ally Krikorian ranks nationally in three events. She is tied for 19th on vault, tied for 17th on floor and tied for 12th on beam. Krikorian led the team on floor against NC State, posting a 9.875. Krikorian ranks second in the EAGL on beam, and fourth on vault and floor.
Making a strong start to her collegiate career, freshman Kathy Tang ranks eighth nationally on vault and 25th in the all-around after scoring a team-high 39.075 against NC State. Tang ranks second in the conference in both vault and the all-around.
Sophomore Stephanie Giameo scored a meet-high 9.900 on beam and now ranks fifth nationally on the apparatus. She is No. 1 in the EAGL on beam.
Maryland takes on Pittsburgh, Cornell and Temple in Pittsburgh on Saturday at 7 p.m. before returning to College Park to battle North Carolina on Jan. 26.
