LOS ANGELES - Senior Tianna Hawkins and junior Alyssa Thomas of 10th-ranked Maryland were named to the John R. Wooden Midseason Top 20 List, released Tuesday. The Terps' dominating duo currently leads the Atlantic Coast Conference in scoring and in rebounding.
Thomas and junior Laurin Mincy were named to the Wooden Preseason Top 30 List this fall. Mincy suffered an ACL tear in the Terrapins' Nov. 28 win at Nebraska. Hawkins was not on the Preseason Top 30 List, but her 18.9 points per game and 10.4 boards per game earned her a spot for the sport's prestigious list.
Thomas, the reigning ACC Player of the Year, has scored in double figures in 15 of 18 games this year and has 10 double-doubles, including one triple-double. She's averaging over 20 points per game in conference play.
The Wooden Award All American Team, consisting of the nation's top five players, will be announced the week of the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament. The John R. Wooden Award Player of the Year will be announced on April 12, 2013, at The Los Angeles Athletic Club as part of the 37th annual Wooden Award Gala. The Gala will honor the Men's and Women's Wooden Award winners, All Americans and the Legends of Coaching Award winner, Kansas Head Coach Bill Self.
