
Pavlech Named ACC Rookie of the Week

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Freshman point guard Chloe Pavlech of the 10th-ranked Maryland women's basketball team was voted ACC Rookie of the Week Monday by the league's Blue Ribbon Panel.
The rookie from Cincinnati, Ohio has started in 17 games this year at the point guard spot. She was key in the Terps' 85-59 rout of No. 11 North Carolina Thursday with 18 points, including two threes. Carolina went on an 8-0 run in the first half to lead by one, then Pavlech hit a jumper and her second three to spark a run and take the lead for good with nine minutes to go in the first.
At Clemson, Pavlech was the facilitator for the Terps' potent offense with seven assists. Maryland pounded it inside, 40-14, and five Terrapins hit double figures.
Pavlech made her first career start against American on Nov. 21 American and has not looked back. She is No. 3 in the ACC in assist/turnover ratio and averages 3.9 assists per game.
Tianna Hawkins scored 16 points to lead five Terps in double figures and No. 10 Maryland defeated Clemson 80-40 on Sunday for head coach Brenda Frese's 100th career ACC win.
Hawkins, the ACC's leading scorer, made 7 of 12 shots for 17 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Alyssa Thomas, second to Hawkins in league scoring and tied with her in ACC rebounding, had 10 points and 10 rebounds for her 12th double-double for the season. Freshman Malina Howard and Katie Rutan each added 16. Alicia DeVaughn scored 14.
