GREENSBORO, N.C. - Former player Jessie Hicks of the Maryland women's basketball program has been selected as the Terrapins' ACC Legend honoree this year. She will be recognized at the ACC Tournament in Greensboro March 7-10.

Hicks, a remarkable scorer for the Terrapins, was a four-year letter winner between 1990-93. She was a two-time first team All-ACC selection in 1992 and 1993, along with earning Kodak All-Region honors those same seasons. With Hicks in the lineup, Maryland earned an NCAA Championship berth each season and advanced as far as the Sweet 16 in 1992.

The Richmond, Va., native ranks in the top 10 in scoring in Maryland women's basketball history with 1,601 points and averaged 14.3 points per game. She still stands among the top-five in blocks with 137 and is third all-time in field goal percentage (.588). Hicks is also among the top players in Terp history in rebounds (703, T-11th), rebounding average (6.3, 14th) and field goals made (649, fourth).

Following her playing career at Maryland, Hicks went on to play six seasons in the WNBA after being picked 12th overall in the Inaugural WNBA Draft. She earned her degree in criminal justice in 1993 and went on to earn a master's of education in guidance and counseling. Hicks currently serves as an elementary school counselor and is a high school girls basketball coach. Hicks has two children, Jamon Emmanual Hicks and Justic Matiyah Hicks.

The 10th-ranked Terps will team up with local athletics non-profits to celebrate National Women and Girls in Sports Day Sunday at the Terps' game vs. Boston College. Maryland will work with Girls on the Run of the Greater Chesapeake, Suitland Boys & Girls Club and a Girl Scout Brownie troop from Bells Mill Elementary School in honor of the event.

Local youth girls will be invited to a pregame tour of Comcast Center as well as onto the court at halftime to take part in a special recognition honoring Maryland female student-athletes. All are welcome to come to a postgame meet and greet and autograph session with selected players in Heritage Hall. Representatives from all of Maryland's female athletic teams will be present for the on-court halftime recognition.

Freshman point guard Chloe Pavlech was voted ACC Rookie of the Week Monday by the league's Blue Ribbon Panel. She is No. 3 in the ACC in assist/turnover ratio and averages 3.9 assists per game.

The Terrapins' dominating duo of senior Tianna Hawkins and junior Alyssa Thomas are leading the ACC in scoring and rebounding. Hawkins leads in scoring with 19.1 points per game and Thomas is just behind her with 16.5 points per game. They are tied atop the league in rebounding with 10.3 per game and Thomas is No. 2 in assists with 5.6 per game.
