
#7 Terrapins Host Tigers in Pink Game

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The seventh-ranked Maryland women's basketball team will welcome the Clemson Tigers to Comcast Center Thursday for its annual Play4Kay Pink Game in honor of breast cancer awareness. The matchup will be shown live on ESPN3 and the Watch ESPN app.
The Terps (19-4, 10-2 ACC) and the Tigers (6-17, 2-10) will tip off at 7 p.m. All breast cancer survivors can get in free by emailing <="">mdsportsmarketing@umd.edu. Maryland has won 12 straight matchups against Clemson, dating back to 2004 and won 80-40, on Jan. 27. Tianna Hawkins led the Terps with 17 points as Alicia DeVaughn, Malina Howard, Katie Rutan and Alyssa Thomas all scored in double figures as well. The Terrapins beat the Tigers inside, 40-14, and outrebounded them 44-23.
The Terrapins dropped a physical match at No. 5 Duke, 71-56, Monday, after holding a lead late in the second half. Thomas and Rutan led with 14 points each.
The Tigers have dropped three straight games after beating Virginia Tech, 47-37, on Jan. 31.
The Terrapins are No. 2 in the country in rebounding with their margin of +15.7, which is second only to Liberty's +18.1. Hawkins and Thomas are Nos. 1 and 2 in the ACC in scoring and rebounding. Hawkins leads the league in scoring with her 19.0 points per game and Thomas is just behind her with 17.0 points per game. Thomas is the league's top rebounder with 10.3 boards per contest and Hawkins is No. 2 with 9.8 per game. Thomas is also second in assists per game with 5.4.
After Thursday's matchup, the Terrapins will head to Charlottesville to take on Virginia (15-8, 7-5) Sunday at 5 p.m. on ESPN2. Maryland beat Virginia, 79-55, in College Park on Dec. 6 behind 20 points each from Hawkins and Thomas and 17 from freshman Tierney Pfirman.
