COLLEGE PARK, Md. - University of Maryland sophomore gymnast Stephanie Giameo earned East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Gymnast of the Week honors, and junior Katy Dodds was awarded EAGL Specialist of the Week honors for the third time, the league announced Wednesday.
Giameo, ranked fourth nationally on balance beam, won her first all-around against NC State, New Hampshire and Towson with a 39.200 on Friday. Giameo opened the meet by tying a personal best with a 9.775 on vault and followed it up with a 9.725 on bars. The sophomore continued her dominance on the beam with her fifth gold medal in five meets by scoring a 9.875. She closed the evening by tying a career-high 9.825 on floor.
Giameo is the second Terp to earn EAGL Gymnast of the Week honors after freshman Kathy Tang earned the honor Jan. 22.
Dodds took home two gold medals on Friday night. She tied for first on vault with a 9.925. Her effort helped the Terps tie a program record on the apparatus with a 49.300. Dodds has totaled at least a 9.900 on vault in all five meets this season and ranks fourth nationally on the apparatus.
After posting a 9.700 on bars, the junior tallied a career-high 9.950 on floor to place first.
This is Dodds' third EAGL Specialist of the Week honors this season, and it marks the fifth consecutive week a Terrapin has taken the honor.
The 18th-ranked Terps host West Virginia and Rutgers for the annual Pink Meet on Sunday, Feb. 17. The meet begins at 5 p.m. at Comcast Center.
