
VCU and Mason on Tap for Terps

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The Maryland baseball team is set for two midweek contests beginning Tuesday as the Terps play host to VCU at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium at 4 p.m.
On Wednesday, Maryland (16-15) travels to Fairfax to take on George Mason. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Tuesday's matchup with the Rams marks the first of three meetings against VCU. The Terps travel to Richmond on April 16 and play host to VCU again on May 8.
Looking to bounce back from a series loss at North Carolina, the Terps turn to freshman left-hander Alex Robinson against the Rams. Robinson excelled in his two previous midweek starts. In two outings, Robinson has a 0.90 ERA and has averaged a strikeout per inning.
In his last midweek start against George Mason (3/26), Robinson went six innings and allowed no earned runs on five hits while striking out six.
Offensively, the Terps are hitting .318 in midweek games with five Terrapins batting above .300 led by Charlie White with a .409 BA. In five games, White has scored six runs with four RBI and has stolen five bases. The sophomore is also slugging a team-best .500 and has a team-high .480 OBP.
Maryland's projected starting pitcher against George Mason has yet to be announced.
Scouting the Rams
VCU sits at 15-14 after losing two of three games at VMI over the weekend. Maryland will be the fourth ACC team the Rams have played this season. VCU has lost to North Carolina and Virginia Tech, but defeated Boston College to open the season.
As a team, the Rams are hitting .269, which ranks eighth in the Atlantic 10. They rank in the middle of the pack in most offensive categories. VCU has shown a propensity to sacrifice bunt when it gets runners on base. The Rams have 24, the third-highest total in the A-10.
Joey Cujas leads the team in RBI (23) and is hitting .307 on the year. Bill Cullen has a team-best .337 BA and is slugging .510 with three home runs.
On the mound, VCU will start RHP Dan Black. It will be Black's third start of the season and seventh overall appearance. The freshman is 0-1 with a 3.97 ERA in 11-1/3 innings pitched.
Scouting the Patriots
George Mason has lost eight consecutive games including a series against Delaware over the weekend. The Patriots got outscored 34-10 in three games against the Blue Hens.
The Patriots are hitting .291 as a team and have six players hitting over .300. Blaise Fernandez leads the club with a .388 average. Tobin Tucker is slugging .621 and has a team-high 30 RBI and seven home runs.
On the mound, opponents are hitting .309 against Mason with an ERA of 5.97. Michael Bowie, who started against the Terps on March 26, leads the team with a 3.48 ERA.
Mason has yet to announce a projected starter for Wednesday.
