On Mellies: A hardnosed catcher with a good feel for calling pitches ... has made significant strides behind the plate and continues to improve his throwing mechanics ... Terps' top late-inning defensive replacement behind the dish ... great "clubhouse guy."

As a Redshirt Sophomore (2006): Played in 21 games, making three starts ... finished the season with a .235 average, a run, double and two RBI ... went 1-for-2 in first collegiate game at No. 26 Winthrop (Feb. 17) ... made first career start against Evansville, going 0-for-1 (Feb. 19) ... had a hit in his only-at bat against No. 3 Georgia Tech (March 31) ... reached on an infield single in his only at-bat of the day at Clemson (April 9) ... earned the start at catcher, going 1-for-3 with a two-run double to center and scoring once against NC State (April 15).

As a Sophomore (2005): Redshirt season after transferring from Western Carolina.

At Western Carolina: Did not play.

At Centreville: Won four varsity letters in baseball and three in football ... was a two-year team captain of the baseball team and a football team captain in 2002 ... was an All-District catcher and a second-team All District quarterback in 2002 ... an honorable mention All-District football selection in 2001.

Personal: Son of Charlie and Karen Mellies ... has a twin brother, Charlie, and two sisters, Amanda and Lauren ... twin brother, Charlie, is a pitcher at Wake Forest ... a member of National Honor Society in high school ... majoring in criminal justice.
