2003 Update:
• Emerged a key face-off man over the last six games of year.
• Played in 14 games a senior drawing the starting face-off nod in NCAA Semifinals vs. Virginia (5/24).
• Won 6/12 vs. UMass (5/17) in NCAA Quarterfinal win.
• Won 5/10 at Notre Dame (5/3), also had three groundballs.
• Career-game on Senior Night vs. UMBC (4/25), winning career-high 9/15 face-offs.
• Equaled then-career-hi taking nine face-offs at Virginia (3/29).
• Won 80% (4/5) face-offs at Stony Brook (3/15), tying hi for wins.
• Won 4/9 face-offs vs. Bucknell (3/11), both career-highs in win.
• Won one-of-two face-offs vs. Duke (3/2).
On Sbarra: Senior who is a great hustler … has worked extremely hard on his game and his body and is starting to reap the benefits of his hard work off the field ... wonderful work ethic … could see some time at short-stick defensive midfield as well as a back-up face-off man … competing for the back-up short-stick spot … comes from lacrosse family, as his father Bill was an All-American defenseman at Maryland in 1967.
As a junior (2002): Played in six games as a reserve face-off midfielder … saw action vs. Hobart (2/23) … won one of three draws vs. Mount St. Mary's (2/26) … won three of five face-offs at Bucknell (3/12) with two groundballs … also a draw vs. Delaware (3/16) … won two of three face-offs at UMBC (5/4) in finale.
As a sophomore (2001): Saw action in six games … scored first career goal at Mount St. Mary's (4/25) … also took first career face-offs against the Mount winning two of four draws … saw late-season action at Yale (4/28) and UMBC (5/5).
As a freshman (2000): Played in three games … made collegiate debut against Mount St. Mary's (2/27) … also played vs. Delaware (3/15) and UMBC (5/6) … scooped up groundball against UMBC.
Before Maryland: Four-year letterwinner at Langley High School in McLean, Va. … played for coach Earl Brewer … captured three Liberty District lacrosse championships … named to all-district team as a junior and senior … all-region and team MVP as a senior … played in North-South All-Star Game … totaled 120 points throughout high school career .
