On Melzer: Expected to see most extensive playing time of his career as a senior short-stick defensive midfielder, along with fellow senior Drew Virk ... battled through a hip flexor injury during preseason camp ... drew valuable playing time as a sophomore and junior with hard work ... has good size and strength ... one of five Terps from the state of Connecticut.
As a junior (2003): Played 15 of 16 games as second-string short-stick defensive midfielder ... tallied first career point on an assist to Dan LaMonica at Towson (3/8), also had a groundball ... played key minutes on defense and had one groundball vs. Duke (3/2) ... switched to No. 14 last season after wearing No. 20 for the last two years ... named to the ACC and Maryland Honor Rolls.
