As a Junior (2004): A steady competitor for the Terrapins and one of the team's top finishers in all seven races... finished in an event's top 15 three times, with his best finish coming in the team's first meet of the year, the Mount St. Mary's Duals... finished fifth overall in that race... best 8k time of the season came in the team's last meet, the ECAC/IC4A Championships, when he ran a 26:14 to finish 72nd.
As a Sophomore (2003): Competed in seven of the Terps' meets in 2003... posted a career-best time of 26:29.09 at the Maryland Invitational on Oct. 11... ran a 15:14 for 5k at the Maryland Terrapin Invitational... compted in the ACC Championships, NCAA Regionals and IC4A Championships.
As a Freshman (2002): Ran in six meets for the team in 2002...the Sept. 28 Paul Short Invitational marked his season-best time of 26:47.37...took 21st at the Maryland Invitational...competed in the ACC Championships and NCAA Regionals.
Before Maryland: Attended New Vista High School and Fairview High School in Boulder, Col....won varsity letters in cross country and track...his cross country team became the 2001 state champion...held a 3.75 GPA.
Personal: Son of Jaye and John Zola...has one brother, Peter...enjoys football, baseball, skiing, and cycling... especially likes to run in his hometown mountains in Boulder, Colorado.
