Maryland Lose to Wake Forest, 35-17
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Brian Kuklick passed for a career-high 330 yards and three
scores as Wake Forest ended a four-game losing streak
against Maryland with a 35-17 win in their Atlantic Coast
Conference game.
Kuklick, who completed 26-of-42 and was intercepted twice, hit
William Merritt with a 20-yard scoring pass 2:20 into the second
quarter as Wake Forest (3-4, 2-3 ACC) took a 21-3 lead.
After Brian Cummings tossed touchdown passes of 32 yards to Omar
Cheeseboro and 12 yards to Brian Hatala to bring Maryland (2-5,
1-3) within four at halftime, Kuklick hit Desmond Clark with a
31-yard scoring strike five seconds into the fourth quarter and
Thabiti Davis from six yards out four minutes later.
Clark caught six passes for 111 yards as the Demon Deacons won
their first home game against the Terrapins since 1979.
Myles Savage returned a kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown late in
the first half for Wake Forest, tying the school record set held
by Tom Lockeridge in 1973 and Anthony Williams in 1990.
Cummings was 27-of-47 for 289 yards to move up on Maryland's
all-time list for completions and yardage. He moved past Scott
Zolak into seventh place for completions and Bob Avellini into
eighth place for yardage.
