Maryland Falls to Clemson

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Raymond Priester ran for 204 yards and two touchdowns as Clemson continued its dominance of Maryland with a 20-9 Atlantic Coast Conference victory.

Priester tied a school record with 36 carries, including scoring runs of 11 yards in the first quarter and eight yards in the fourth. The yardage was the second-best of his career, surpassed only by a 263-yard game against Duke in 1995.

David Richardson kicked a pair of third-quarter field goals for the Tigers (4-3, 2-3 ACC), who have won 10 of the last 11 games between the schools. Maryland (2-5, 1-3) has scored just 12 points in its last five meetings with Clemson.

Priester's first touchdown capped the first possession of the game, a 63-yard march in eight plays. His second score came on the 11th play of a 94-yard drive midway through the fourth quarter and sealed the win.

An interception by Maryland's Paul Jackson set up a 19-yard field goal by Brian Kopka that cut the deficit to 7-3 with 9:59 left in the second quarter. An interception and 12-yard return by Kendall Ogle led to the only touchdown for the Terrapins, a four-yard run by Lamont Jordan with 1:52 remaining in the first half that gave Maryland a 9-7 lead.

The Tigers regrouped in the third quarter, when Richardson had field goals of 27 and 42 yards. The first kick was set up by a fumble by Jordan that was recovered by linebacker Mond Wilson at the Terps 17. The second was the longest of Richardson's career and extended Clemson's lead to 13-9 with 1:47 left in the period.

Nealon Greene was 7-of-14 for 43 yards and two interceptions for Clemson, which was outgained 274 yards to 258.

Brian Cummings was 20-of-32 for 204 yards and an interception for Maryland. Buddy Rogers had 57 yards on 15 carries and Jordan added 37 on 12 for the Terps.
