Former Terrapin center backs Clarence Goodson and Omar Gonzalez helped lead the United States to a Gold Cup championship with a 1-0 victory against Panama Sunday afternoon.
USA clinched its first title since 2007 courtesy of a goal by midfielder Brek Shea at Soldier Field. Landon Donovan earned player of the tournament honors.
The Gold Cup victory earns the U.S. a spot in a two-team playoff against the winner of the 2015 Gold Cup. The winner of those contests will clinch a berth in the 2017 Confederations Cup.
