COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Junior midfielder Mael Corboz has been selected as the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week for leading the Terps to two victories against VCU and No. 3-ranked Penn State.
Corboz finished a penalty kick in the17th minute against VCU Wednesday night, which proved to be the game-winning goal as the Terps defeated the Rams 1-0.
He also scored the first two goals of the game in Maryland's 4-0 rout of third ranked and previously unbeaten Penn State. Nittany Lion goalkeeper Andrew Wolverton, the reigning Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, had surrendered only two goals all season long prior to Sunday's rout.
In the13th minute, Corboz found the back of the net with his left foot off a cross from Mikey Ambrose. Later in the first half, he calmly finished his fourth penalty kick of the season to give Maryland a two-goal advantage. Corboz is a perfect 4-for-4 from the penalty spot this season.
“We're playing with a chip on our shoulder,” Corboz said. “We have enough quality on our team that if we just focus on ourselves technically, we have the ability to put four goals on anyone.”
Corboz now has a team-leading five goals in the 2014 campaign.
The Terps return to action Oct. 15 when Lehigh travels to Ludwig Field for a 7 p.m. tilt.
