Each week during the 2014-15 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week. This week's Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week is senior Mikias Eticha of the Maryland men's soccer team.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Senior Mikias Eticha has been selected as the Solomon Eye Associates Terp of the Week for leading the Terps to two victories against Lehigh and No. 5 Indiana.
Eticha, who was also named Big Ten Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, scored both goals in the Terps' shutout win against Lehigh Wednesday night and provided the game-winning assist in a 2-1 victory at No. 5 Indiana Sunday afternoon.
Mikias Eticha accounted for both goals as Maryland pushed its shutout streak to 270 consecutive minutes against Lehigh.
The Falls Church, Va., native put Maryland on the board with the Terps' ninth chance of the first half. With playing conditions worsening over the course of the first stanza, Mael Corboz controlled a ball on the far sideline and found David Kabelik, who unselfishly centered the ball to a streaking Eticha for the open-net goal in the 33rd minute.
Eticha picked up his second goal of the match in the 72nd minute. Corboz made a strong play down the far sideline to beat his defender and find Jereme Raley just outside the box. Raley quickly dished to Eticha who put the ensuing shot past keeper Ciaran Nugent at the top corner of the box to the far post for the 2-0 cushion.
At Indiana, Alex Crognale headed home a perfectly-served ball from Eticha from seven yards to cushion the Terrapin lead to two.
The Terps host Hartwick on Tuesday before wrapping up the home regular season slate with a match against Ohio State next Saturday.
