COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Fresh off an 11th place finish at the Princeton Invitational, senior Myah Hicks will lead the Maryland women's cross country team into its debut at the 2014 Big Ten Cross Country Championship in Iowa City Saturday.
The 6k race will begin at 11:45 ET at the Ashton Cross Country Course on the campus of the University of Iowa. Michigan State is the defending champion.
Hicks has paced the Terrapins since making her season debut in October. The Alexandra, Va., native finished as the top Terp (59th overall) at the Paul Short Invitational before pacing the Terps at the aforementioned Princeton event.
The senior has big race experience, placing second on the team at last season's ACC Championships and competing at the 2013 NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Competition. Hicks also finished in scoring positions at the 2012 and 2011 ACC Championships.
Hannah Mansbach will be another Terp to watch in Iowa City. The sophomore crossed the line behind Hicks at Princeton and finished fourth on the team at the Paul Short.
Sydney Almeida has been a model of consistency this season, finishing among the Terps' top-5 in all three of her races. Freshman Alexandra Lucki will also look to be a factor after placing as Maryland's runner-up at the Paul Short.
Catherine Sheffo, who was the top Maryland competitor at the Mount St. Mary's Duals and the Salty Dog Invitational, will also compete in Iowa City. Senior Maeve McCoy, juniors Katie Nappi and Emily VandeWater, and sophomore Alexa Squirini and Charde' Barnes round out the Maryland lineup.
Admission to the Big Ten Championships is $8 for adults and $3 for youth for pre-sale tickets and $10 for adult $5 for youth for walk-up tickets. Tickets can be purchased here.
