
Ruse Powers Old Liners Past Aggies in Game Two

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Bobby Ruse pitched five scoreless innings and Kevin Martir drove in two runs as the Old Liners took game two of the Fall World Series defeating the Aggies 4-1 Friday afternoon at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium.
Ruse was strong on the mound holding the Aggies to one hit and retiring the last 11 batters he faced as the Old Liners took a 2-0 lead in the best-of-three series. Martir, Brandon Lowe and Matt Oniffrey all had two hits. Lowe and Oniffrey each contributed a single and a double.
The Old Liners jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first tagging freshman Brian Shaffer with a run. Lowe jumped started the offensive effort with a leadoff double, which was followed by an Oniffrey single. Papio brought Lowe home with a RBI ground out.
Martir capped the opening frame with a two-out single to score Oniffrey as the Old Liners took a 2-0 lead to the second.
In the third, the Old Liners increased their lead to four. Oniffrey and Papio led off the inning with back-to-back doubles to put the Old Liners up 3-0. Martir brought Papio home later in the inning with a sacrifice fly.
Jack Piekos worked three innings of one-run ball in relief of Ruse, who got the win. Alex Robinson locked down his second save in as many days with an unblemished ninth.
Shafer took the loss for the Aggies. The freshman worked five innings and gave up four runs on seven hits while striking out three. Zach Morris pitched three innings of scoreless relief and Kevin Mooney added one as well.
The Aggies lone run came in the eighth. Kevin Smith led off the inning with a triple and scored on a sacrifice fly from Mike Rescigno.
The Fall World Series concludes Sunday with a 1 p.m. tilt at Bob “Turtle” Smith Stadium.
