McCoy Announces Additions for 2015-16

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Maryland wrestling head coach Kerry McCoy announced the addition of seven wrestlers that will join the Terrapins for the 2015-16 season Wednesday.

McCoy believes the group, which includes two wrestlers from New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania and one from New Jersey, can make an immediate impact in College Park. 

“I am very happy with the group of guys how have committed to our program,” McCoy said. “These guys truly represent what we need to be the best program we can be. These guys have a ton of experience and have had a lot of success and I fully expect them to be very successful when they get here.”

Nick Casella – 133 – Locust Valley HS – New York

BEFORE MARYLAND:  a three-time New York state placer, finishing second (106), second (113) and fifth (120).

 

Danny Boychuck – 149 – Wyoming Seminary HS – Pennsylvania

BEFORE MARYLAND: a National Prep All American…finished fifth at the 2012 FILA Cadet World Championship.

 

Wade Hodges – 149 – Wauseon High School – Ohio

BEFORE MARYLAND: A three-time Ohio state placer…Ironman placer. 

 

Brendan Burnham  – 165  –  Pine Richland  –  Pennsylvania 

BEFORE MARYLAND: recorded a 7th-place finish in the PIAA in 2013...a two-time sectional champion.

 

Josh Ugalde – 165 – Bound Brook High School – New Jersey

BEFORE MARYLAND: A two-time New Jersey state placer (2nd, 6th)…finished second at the 2014 FloNationals…placed third at the 2013 Cadet Freestyle Nationals…notched an eigth place finish at the 2012 Cadet Freestyle Nationals…currently ranked sixth nationally at 160 pounds in Flo Wrestling's high school rankings and seventh by Intermat.

 

David-Brian Whisler – 174/184 – Howland High School – Ohio

BEFORE MARYLAND: A two-time Ohio state placer…finished seventh at the 2014 Junior Freestyle Nationals…rated 14th by Flo Wrestling and 16th by Intermat in their 170-pound high school rankings.

 

Youssiff Hemida – 285 – Mamaroneck HS – New York

BEFORE MARYLAND: The runner-up at the 2014 Super 32 tournament…placed seventh at NHSCA Nationals…finished second at FloNationals… notched a fifth-place finish at Junior Freestyle Nationals…placed seventh at the 2013 Cadet Freestyle Nationals…ranked fifth in Flo Wrestling's 220-pound rankings…rated the ninth ranked 220-pounder in Intermat's high school rankings.
