Terps Snag No. 4 Overall Seed in NCAA Tournament

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - The University of Maryland secured the fourth overall seed in the 2014 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship, announced Monday afternoon.

The first-time Big Ten champions dropped Indiana 2-1, Sunday at Ludwig Field to win their fourth tournament crown in only five seasons. Maryland (13-5-3) is in the midst of an 11-game unbeaten streak.

The Terps played a total of 10 teams in this year's field, including No. 3 seed Michigan State and No. 5 seed Indiana, which they took on twice. Additionally, Maryland played tournament contender Akron in a preseason exhibition.

Maryland will face the winner of the UMBC/Wake Forest first round match on Sunday at 5 p.m. at Ludwig Field.

  • Maryland has seven College Cup appearances in the last 15 years, tied for most in the country.
  • Maryland has advanced to the postseason in 14 straight years.

  • Maryland has finished in the top 15 in the final NSCAA poll for 11 straight seasons. No other school has done so more than five straight years.
  • Every four-year player at Maryland since 1998 has been part of a College Cup team. The 15-year run is the longest active streak in the country.
  • Maryland is making its 34th appearance in the NCAA tournament. The Terps are seeking to advance to the third round for a nation-best 13th straight season in 2014.
